"Miss Bunny goes to the nursing home 3 times a week to visit Nancy who used to live with us. She brings a ray of sunshine to the nursing home and the staff. Nancy looks forward to her visits."

"Shana helps me a lot with self esteem and anything we want to get. She is awesome and very helpful at all times. Shana taught me how to budget my money and still have money for the things I want to buy." Robert

Hectors's Experience

Staff Make It Happen

In living with Tom and Pam, the experience has proven to be beneficial to my life in the sense that not only has it allowed me to work in a humble and peaceful atmosphere but it has also enabled me to learn more about this sector of the disabled population. Even though some days are more challenging than others are, their feelings of comfort with me is very rewarding which makes it all worthwhile.
In the eight months that I have been living at Notch Hill, I have become attached to Tom and Pam, not to mention somewhat over protective with them. It is hard to explain but it is important to ensure that their quality of life remains of importance. I was very nervous during the beginning stages as a live-in but was officially initiated by Tommy extending his first hug to me and Pam quickly learning my name. My desire for them to feel safe and comfortable with me was working itself out and rather quickly.
While living with Tom and Pam, I have learned how to properly deal with their conditions which in some instances require one to act fast yet thoroughly; remaining patient and calm under all circumstances but most of all, have respect for their space, privacy and disability. They have demonstrated that although they have disabilities, their drive to live, work, and play independently and within their community is very important to them.
To be witness to Pam laughing at my jokes, singing along to music, and bopping her head to the music especially while driving is very uplifting. As for Tommy, he loves to test me in every way possible but also enjoys helping me around the house and in the kitchen. He also laughs at my mistakes and when I catch him, he immediately pretends as if he were not laughing; it is "hilarious".
Overall, this experience has allowed me to meet great people along the way. From the Shubert Theater greeting us with open arms, to bowling, shopping, and walks in various parks, the shoreline community has been extremely kind, respectful, and accommodating not only to me but especially to Tom and Pam. Therefore, I am looking forward to the days ahead in terms of providing quality care for Tommy and Pam.

Sincerely:
Hector Gabriel Beltre Jr.
