Volunteer and Employment Opportunities

Volunteers

The SARAH organization has a rich 40 year tradition of volunteerism. Without them we would not have the SARAH's Cupboard - a thrift shop which has been a back bone of fund raising for the agency for many decades. We would not have our vital Boards of Directors. We would not have our annual auction which has also been a major fund raising project over the last several years. We depend on and are extremely grateful for their enormous hours of hard work.

SARAH Tuxis has its own nine year tradition of volunteerism with its Circle of Friends program. This is a committee led by our Board of Directors. Over the years the committee has recruited volunteers from the larger community to assist in making a wide variety of repairs to group homes. It has most recently raised monies for Christmas gifts for some of the individuals we support who have few financial resources. It has also been a source of friendships for persons we support. The opportunities for volunteers to participate in our efforts are enormous and can be tailored to fit individual time constraints and personal interests. We invite you to call the agency at 203-458-8532, or email us Tuxis@cshore.com

Employment

SARAH Tuxis employs approximately 165 full and part time staff. They are a uniquely qualified and dedicated group of men and women. Their work is demanding but also very fulfilling. The job description for Support Staff was rewritten a few years ago by a committee of these staff. They have very high expectations of their peers. Staff committees are an integral part of the operations of the agency. We try to consistently practice our "bottoms up" management philosophy. The views and ideas of every staff are essential to the continued growth of the quality of the supports provided by the agency. Staff work closely with families of persons we support. As we are an Arc agency, the roles families play is central to our mission. Read more about The Arc on our Arc page "How the SARAH tradition is part of the Arc Movement"  We take very seriously our dedication to building individual supports systems for each individual we serve. In our Supported Living settings, it is not uncommon for staff to be interviewed and essentially hired by the person they support. The compatibility of staff and the people they support and the relationships that develop are considered to be essential job skills. Our staff turnover is remarkably low given the national average of persons who leave this type of work in their first year. As we grow, the opportunities for creative dedicated staff increase. Our pay scales and benefits are comparable to agencies in our area. We invite you to either call 203-458-8532 xt 12 or email us at sarahtuxis@sarah-tuxis.org for an employment application.
